課程概述 |
This semester, this English Composition I course will focus on developing students' skills in writing paragraphs of various genres: definition, process, description, opinion, and narration. Throughout the course, students will practice each of these writing types through completing five take-home assignments. As a final evaluation, students will write one mini-report summarizing their writing processes for these assignments.

課程目標 |
By the end of this course, students will be able to use the step-by-step writing process for different writing purposes and in various writing genres.

|
課程要求 |
40% Writing assignments: Students will need to complete 5 writing assignments from the textbook throughout the semester. Assignment instructions will be announced later in the course.
20% Final mini-report: Students will reflect and summarize their own writing process (using the seven steps in the handout) for their writing assignments. This report (around 4-5 pages) is due toward the end of the course.
10% Unit presentation: In a group, students will sign up and summarize 1 reading text and its "Language development" section from a unit of the textbook. Students will also design one writing task (relevant to the reading) and then have the class practice it, using the kind of writing genre that we are studying of that week.
15% Writing conference: In order for students to receive constructive feedback from the instructor, each student will sign up to meet with the instructor 3 times during an in-class writing conference.
15% Activities, attitude and attendance: Students will need to attend class sessions and participate in writing practice on a weekly basis. Good learning attitudes mainly include coming to each class session on time and engage actively in various writing-related activities. Your final grade will be lowered if you fail to do so.
